Meslek hayat?na 1985 y?l?nda Kocaeli Mühendislik Fakültesinde, ara?t?rma görevlisi olarak ba?lam??t?r. Yüksek lisans e?itimine, 1986 y?l?nda ?stanbul Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsünün jeofizik ana bilim dal?nda açt??? programla ba?lam?? ve 1988 y?l?nda “Dü?ey elektrik sondaj? verilerinin do?rudan yorumunda dönü?ük özdirenç fonksiyonundan katman parametrelerinin say?sal hesab?” adl? tezi ile jeofizik yüksek mühendisi unvan?n? kazanm??t?r. 1989 y?l?nda görev yerini de?i?tirerek, doktora çal??mas?na ba?lad??? ?stanbul Üniversitesi Mühendislik Fakültesinde ara?t?rma görevlisi olarak çal??maya ba?lam??t?r. Doktora çal??mas?n? “Manyetotellürik tepkilerdeki topo?rafik etkilerin düzeltilmesi ve Bat? Anadolu verilerine uygulanmas?” adl? tez ile 1995 y?l?nda ayn? kurumda tamamlam??t?r. Gürer, 1999 y?l?n?n Kas?m ay?nda, doçent unvan?n? kazanm??t?r. ?stanbul Üniversitesi Mühendislik Fakültesinde 1999 y?l?nda Yard?mc? Doçent kadrosuna atanan Gürer, 2000 y?l?nda ayn? kurumda doçent olarak göreve atanm??t?r ve halen bu kadroda görevini sürdürmektedir.
